Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has been criticised for instigating a war of words with Chelsea boss Antonio Conte.
Mourinho appeared to take a dig at the former Italy boss last week for blaming his side’s indifferent results on the club’s injury crisis.
Conte hit back at his colleague, suggesting he was ‘obsessed’ by Chelsea, the club he was sacked by two years ago after winning the Premier League title in the previous campaign.
But Jamie Redknapp says Mourinho should put his feud with Conte to one side and focus on catching leaders Manchester City.
‘Mourinho seems to be wasting too much energy in picking fights with other managers,’ the former Liverpool and England star told the Daily Mail.
‘He doesn’t need to do this. It seemed obvious that Antonio Conte was the intended recipient when Mourinho moaned last week that some managers ‘cry and cry’ about fixtures.
‘Why is Mourinho bothering to wind up Conte? He should be worried about Pep Guardiola and Manchester City, who are threatening to run away with the Premier League.
‘After enjoying an excellent start, Mourinho has given himself an unnecessary problem.
‘When you keep focusing on the negatives, it filters through to the players. With Tottenham at Old Trafford on Saturday, Mourinho must focus on the positives.’
United’s unbeaten run came to an abrupt end at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday as Huddersfield Town clinched a famous 2-1 win.
Mourinho was highly critical of his players after the defeat, suggesting their attitude was the worst he had seen as a manager.
‘When you lose a match because of attitude, that is really bad,’ the former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss said.
