Manchester United players unhappy with Jose Mourinho’s outburst following Huddersfield Town defeat

A number of Manchester United players are reportedly unhappy with the level of criticism aimed at them by Jose Mourinho following Saturday’s surprise defeat to Huddersfield Town.

The Red Devils made a superb start to the 2017-18 campaign, winning six of their first eight Premier League games while taking full points from their Champions League group matches.
United’s form had seen them level with City at the top of the table but their unbeaten run came to an end at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday as Huddersfield secured a remarkable victory.

Goals from Aaron Mooy and Laurent Depoitre inspired the 2-1 win and Mourinho tore into his players following the final whistle, criticising their attitude and application.

‘I heard [Ander] Herrera in the flash interview saying the attitude and desire was poor,’ said Mourinho. ‘Oh my God.

‘When a player says that, when a player feels that, I think they should all go to the press conference and explain why, because I cannot explain that.’

Mourinho also said his team lined up as if they were competing in a friendly, but the manager’s outburst has surprised many United players, according to the Daily Mirror.

It is claimed Mourinho’s relationship with his squad has been under strain since his comments and that the former Chelsea boss was ‘aloof and cold’ in training the following day.

While the players expected criticism following their shock defeat and poor performance, there is reportedly a feeling around the squad that the United manager went too far.

Former Manchester United and England defender Gary Neville has also admitted he was ‘stunned’ by Mourinho’s comments.

‘I thought it would be tough for United because of the atmosphere there but I felt they would come through it,’ Neville told Sky Sports.

‘I didn’t see the game live but I was stunned by the result and also by Jose Mourinho’s comment after about the application of the players, saying it was the worse he’s seen.
