Harry Kane’s injury has pushed Tottenham to the limit ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash against Manchester United, according to Mauricio Pochettino.
Spurs will be without the England striker after scan revealed Kane had suffered minor damage to his hamstring during last weekend’s resounding 4-1 win over Liverpool at Wembley.
Summer signing Fernando Llorente is expected to lead the line in Kane’s absence, but Pochettino also hinted he could switch formation to compensate for the loss of a striker who has scored 17 goals in 16 appearances for club and country this season.
Tottenham slipped to a surprise defeat against West Ham in midweek, letting a two-goal lead and a place in the Carabao Cup quarter finals slip through their grasp and Pochettino believes Kane’s injury, allied to the extra day of rest Jose Mourinho’s side will enjoy, has provided United with a significant advantage.
He said: ‘We are thinking because today is the second day since the home game, I think we need to wait until tomorrow to decide the formation, it is not a problem because we can use one other formation because that is a situation that we work a lot on in the pre-season.
‘The players have the capacity to adapt in one other shape. First of all we need to assess everyone and then to try take the best decision and be competitive.
‘Manchester [United] played one day before us, they have one more day rest and time to prepare.
‘For us we are on the limit because after we are going to play Real Madrid on Wednesday and then finish that period against Palace at Wembley.’
